Pastor Mark Q. Verbal is a Durham native. He is the youngest of six siblings born to Sidney and Gladys Verbal. Pastor Verbal matriculated and graduated from the Durham Public School system. He also attended North Carolina Central University and Durham Technical Community College.

Born and raised in the church, Pastor began his Christian walk at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Brown. Pastor Verbal was baptized at the age of 12, where he felt as if God, Himself had baptized him. Under the pastorate of the Late Rev. A.H. Parker of The Mt. Zoar Baptist Church, Pastor Verbal accepted his call to the ministry at the age of 24, after the Lord spoke to him out of a fire in his bedroom. He has served in the Body of Christ under the illustrious leadership of Pastor and Vice Bishop Emeritus Frizelle Yelverton of Mt. Calvary Lighthouse of Faith (formerly Mount Calvary Holy Church), and Pastor Waddell Smith (formerly of Mt. Zoar Baptist Church), both of which are located in Durham.

Pastor Verbal is the founder and leader of Tabernacle of Joy Ministries, Inc. The Tabernacle began having services on the first Sunday in September of 1999 at the Lakewood YMCA in Durham, NC. Several members joined on that first day of service, and to-date, some of them still remain. After approximately nine months at the YMCA, the Lord blessed the Tabernacle to move into a new dwelling place, which is our present sanctuary at 1001 W. Chapel Hill StreetDurham, NC. Under Pastor Verbals leadership, the church has grown in membership, as well as spiritual maturity. A credit to his pastoring ability, several members have done their initial sermon since being in this ministry. They continue to grow in grace and have moved on to pursue other avenues of ministry as the Lord has seen fit. In addition, God blessed this ministry in April 2010 when He promoted Pastor Verbal to the ministry gift of Apostle.

Apostle Verbal is not only anointed to preach the gospel, he is a dynamic teacher. Apostle has been gifted with a melodious singing ministry. He is the founder of several musical organizations in the Tabernacle: Asaph (the praise & worship ministry), The Little Voices of Joy, The Sanctuary Choir and he is leader and founder of the former Greater Joy Ensemble, who recently will be celebrating 30 years in the music ministry. The Lord has blessed our founder to lead one of the title cuts on the CD project of Karen Jones, JMAC Records - "No Weapon" and several recordings on JMAC Records newest release If there's no rain in you life.

Pastor Verbal is married to the former Tonya Yvette McCann, who is also a dynamic woman of God, a psalmist, Co-Pastor and Prophetess of their ministry. Pastor Verbal has been in the ministry twenty-six years, and pastoring eleven years as of September 2010. He is an anointed man of God.

Tonya Yvette McCann Verbal was born in Morristown, New Jersey; where she attended the Morris County Public School System. Upon graduation from Morristown High School, Tonya was recruited for the School of Music at North Carolina Central University, where she served as one of the featured soloist for the Touring Choir, under the direction of the late Dr. Charles H. Gilchrist. During those years she attended the Mount Calvary Holy Church where she was ordained under the leadership of current Pastor Deborah Y. Obie and the late Vice Bishop Emeritus Frizelle Yelverton.

In 2001, God called Elder to the Tabernacle of Joy Ministries, Inc., where she is involved in the following ministries: leader of Women of Character (Womens Ministry), The Little Voices of Joy (Childrens Music Ministry). Elder Verbal also serves as an Adult Sunday School and Minister in Training Teacher. Additionally, she oversees the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and the Wednesday Night Bible Study-Power Scripture to strengthen the body. Elder Verbal is a dynamic psalmist and evangelist who have preached the Word of God at womens conferences in states from Virginia to Florida.

In October of 2002, Elder Verbal married her friend of some 14 years, Pastor Mark Quinton Verbal. January 6, 2007, Elder Tonya Verbal was installed as Co-Pastor of the Tabernacle of Joy Ministries, Inc. Durham, North Carolina.

In 2009 Co-Pastor founded Total Transformation Ministries, this ministry was organized to help mentor ladies between the ages of 7 to Adulthood to discover and prepare them to be launched into their destiny. Fulfilling her passion to love people, she also began a fellowship of Pastors wives that offers an opportunity for these co-laborers to give each other love, support, prayer and sisterhood through a monthly gathering entitled A Coming Together.

A Coming Together has transitioned to a Women Fellowship Ministry which meets twice a year in the spring and the fall, gathering women to come and unite in their gifting, callings, and sisterhood. Life in the Word was established in 2010 as a study session digging deeper in Gods word to learn how to rightly divide Gods rich word and apply it to daily practical living.

Co-Pastor Verbal has accomplished quite a few of the plans that God has ordained for her life, and there are yet more to come. Even now the Lord is re-directing Co-Pastor in different areas of her life as she makes plans to write her first book that has a theme of healing and overcoming. She understands that promotion comes from God and He is changing her into who He has ordained for her to be, on April 25, 1010 God added Prophetess to her mantle through a confirmation service held at the Tab.

A few trials and tribulations we must go through, yet God will keep speaking to our spirits what he shall do in our lives. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
