
Venita M. Abrams is an African-American writer who was born and reared on Chicago‘s South Side. As an emerging writer, her literary voice speaks of encouraging and uplifting people in the Windy City. Influenced by prominent Black literature, Abrams’ words seek paths of liberation for our people.
Ms. Abrams‘ published works of art are as follows: “Shattered, But Not Broken” her third book (Poetic blues and praises). “Prince C.J.” is her second book, (A children’s story). “The Color Of My Eyes” (Abrams first published manuscript, 1996) moved many women. Abrams reached communities with the company she founded in 1991, Ne-Ke’s Theatre Company, a Non-Profit organization. While attending Columbia College in Chicago, she also founded the college’s first Black Theatre Workshop Chapter II.
Ms. Abrams has been showcased on television and radio. News paper have published articles about her involvement in community theatrical projects. She performs at various poetry settings throughout the city of Chicago.
Ms. Abrams is a teacher in the Chicago Public School System. She also co-produced, along with Spike Rebel in 1997, her soundtrack “Inner Face,” poetry and soft jazz tones. This was her first produced soundtrack to earmark twenty years of writing plays, poems, and giving performances.
Ms. Abrams' latest projects include: “Surviving The Drought,” a spiritual play that tells a story about a couple who survived a love drought; a CD also entitled “Shattered, But Not Broken.” Abrams, contracted by Gregg McConnell, Terry Bell and Aaron Riley affiliated with Urban Entertainment Network, was asked to script write, direct, and perform in a play written by Carole Demesmin entitled "Wanting Memories". This historical and very educational play will be produced at a later date. Coming soon, her latest project “Hey Brotha’…I Cry Too,“ a book for black men! Coming soon: “LIVE LIFE“, a soundtrack of spoken word with a touch of neo-soul flavor.
